the wrinkled bed..Ikea style

We are embracing the wrinkled bed over here at our house. We are linen people. I wear linen all summer...tops, shorts, pants and dresses, I like the lightweight comfort of it. Husband wears linen dress shirts and slacks in warm weather too.

I have ogled the linen bedding by Eileen Fisher on Garnet Hill and thought MUST HAVE! But the price of her king linen duvet is $298 and I did not want to pay that of course! Then last fall, we happened upon Linblomma linen bedding at Ikea. The price for a king duvet and set of king cases....$89! Hmm, quality must be compromised but for that price, we'll give it a try.

Husband, in his usual Ikea buying style (also his Costco buying style), insisted we get three because the price was so low. We negotiated to two, one for our bed and one for a guest bed. I saved them for warm weather. Warm weather is here so after washing and drying with unscented dryer sheets yesterday and NOT ironing them,  we slept on them last night and LOVED them! So soft, fabric did not require breaking in as sheets sometimes do. Used the cases for the top pillows and were comfy all night.

Here is Ikea's photo of the bedding on Livet Hemma.

Of course, husband now says we need to get another set, just in case, on our next visit!

Do you change up your bedding in warm weather like we do?

Thanks for visiting!

things I like this week

1. Such an easy appetizer for entertaining or a simple lunch for hubby and me paired with a salad. Just drizzle olive oil, finely chopped herbs and red peppers, salt and pepper over a log of goat or feta cheese and serve warm with crostini.

2. Isn't this place setting by Tom Sheerer with grass mats and  pink seersucker napkins pretty? Wicker vases for candles (bought some of these at Marshall's a few years ago), monogrammed plates (Gracious Style sells them) and unique footed glasses compliment.

3. Sandal weather is fast approaching. Joie is a company that is new to me, saw these on Piperlime. Love the color added to a traditional thong sandal. A fresh take on a classic.

4. Isn't this little furry peanut adorable? I think Andy would love him (or her)!

5. Chunky table lamps are my favorite, Circa Lighting sells this pierced celadon lamp by Ralph Lauren that would look great in our house.

6. Who doesn't love the courtyard gardens of Charleston and Savannah? We have visited in the spring in the past (always trying to be nonchalant as we peer into the private gated gardens on our strolls) and are looking forward to being there this fall for a week to get youngest son situated in school but we have never been on a garden tour for up close access. Have you? Savannah held their tour of homes a few weeks ago. The Garden Club of Charleston held their tour last weekend. Historic Charleston Foundation's House and Garden Tour and Antiques Show is still going on. Visiting all of these on the same trip is on my bucket list!

7. Saw this striped bedding in a simply decorated room by Tricia Foley on Boxwood Terrace blog. Love the wicker table and glass lamp. We found a similar striped duvet at Ikea for older son's apartment that was surprisingly soft after a wash and dry with non scented dryer sheets. West Elm and Garnet Hill sell striped sheets that look great too.

8. Cut spring flowering branches extra long for a dramatic tall accent in a high ceilinged living room. While you are at it, add two bright pillows and who doesn't need a gorgeous modern painting like this one by Robert Rea? This is his Georgetown living room that was featured in Veranda a few years ago.

9. I think the artistry and technique of chalk artist Dana Tanamachi is amazing! Her work is often seen in New York City and Brooklyn where she lives. I love this message, a print can be purchased for $60 here.

Thanks for visiting!

stylish slipcovers for Ikea furniture

See the beautiful lavender slipcovered sofa? That is an Ikea sofa with a custom Belgian linen slipcover by Bemz.

Our older kids have Ikea sofas in their apartments and I am sure our youngest will one day have an Ikea sofa. When they start showing too much wear and hopefully are still in sturdy shape, Bemz has the solution.

They sell stylish and sturdy slipcovers to cover current and popular discontinued Ikea furniture. All fabrics are 100% natural and washable and they deliver to 35 countries!

Leslie Pennington started the company when she wanted to stray from the limited fabric choices Ikea offers to achieve the look she wanted for her summer house in Sweden.

Bemz offers 70 solid fabric choices and 80 prints by known designers and even Marimekko, as well as a  3 year guarantee. They offer fabrics in lots of different looks, whether you like Swedish style, industrial chic, modern urban, traditional, boho or eclectic.

The company makes slipcovers for sofas, chairs,  stools, headboards, bed frames and dining chairs, cushion covers, bed skirts, throw pillows and extra fabric is sold for coordinating window treatments, etc.

The website has a nice feature that allows you to apply different fabric choices onto your particular Ikea piece to play around with.

Shop Bemz here. Read their blog here.

ikea living

Our daughter and some friends went to Ikea to help a friend shop for his new apartment. It somehow turned into a photo shoot...

more Ikea expedit

Every home can use an expedit somewhere! Both of our older kids use them in their city apartments, and in different ways each time they move. Our son is now using his to store his wardrobe with baskets as drawers. Here are some more inspiring ways to use them...

They work in the living room filled with baskets.

They are great for organizing files and photos.

They make a perfect room divider in an open loft.

Cute in kid's rooms.

Are perfect for a laundry room or linen storage.

Adorable in a nursery with the optional legs added.

Great for tableware in a dining room.

or in a home office attached to the wall.

As a bedframe.

or perfect for shoes

Expedit is available at ikea.
