our cottage kitchen dining area

Hi everyone!

I posted pics of the kitchen in the mountain cottage we recently moved into yesterday.  Here is the adjacent dining area. A dining bench and pillows finally arrived this week.

The table is an antique from Dovetail Antiques in Cashiers, NC. I will visit one day and take photos to share on the blog, a great shop. A woodworker is going to raise the legs next week to accomodate the chairs and allow for more legroom.

The arrangement is a group of mountain galax leaves formed into rosettes, available at Vivienne Metzger Antiques, also in Cashiers. Another post worthy destination, I love her shop too.

The interiors of the cottage will be hard to photograph because of weird light. The skylight is over this area. The wall color is not yellow, but a creamy light beige. The photo below reveals the real color.

There is another dining area in the corner of the living room, our kitchen table from the old house, so we can accommodate a larger group when needed and also use it as a work area. The lamps on the buffet have matching bulbs and shades, why are they looking wonky in the photo?
The buffet is waiting for a mirror that I have yet to discover. Hope I can find something rustic and modern. Also need to style the tabletop, this area is the next project.

Thanks for visiting!

things I like this week

1.  Simple kitchen beauty...image from Australia's "Martha Stewart" Donna Hay, visit her website here.

2. I want another Annie Sloan Chalk Paint project and have been searching the house for something I can paint. Would love to find a dresser at consignment or thrift similar to this one for one of our bedrooms and paint it in Louis Blue with a light coat of dark wax applied on top.

3. What a beautiful way to create separation on a patio. Drought tolerant ornamental grasses in glazed pots. Design by Mark English.

4. I love Meg Braff's rooms.... always fresh, traditional, and pretty!

5. The most elegant summer accessory.... Elizabeth Locke earrings.

 6. Gingham ribbon and embossed gift wrap, Carolyne Roehm used to sell both on her website but can copy the look for a little summer gift.

7. Linen lovers should spend a few minutes on Libeco's site or visit one of their stores when traveling in Europe. The ultimate in linen products. Shop here in the US. The gorgeous monogram on this Libeco pillow is done No. Four Eleven and can be purchased here.

8. I have copied this look this spring, but my skirt is about 3" longer! From Suburbly Chic tumbler.

9. The prettiest drink EVER! Ice cubes made with distilled water and edible flowers. Layer water in cube tray 1/3 up and freeze. Add flowers (or a raspberry or blueberry) and bit more water and freeze. One more layer on top. Here is the Martha how to.

pillow post 2

One more post about pillows...also inspired by Mary Ann of Classic Casual Home.

Fabric obsession. Those of us visual types can relate. I first saw this fabric on Mary Ann's blog. The happy orange and pink lumbar pillows in her California living room were made by Liana of Woodyliana.  I had to know what this fabric was! I investigated and discovered it is Barry Dixon's Ishtar in Cinnabar. I want to use this fabric somewhere! Looks nice on the desk chairs in the Lonny offices...
as seen on Woodyliana's Etsy shop site...

I love it when special fabrics speak to me. The only place I can imagine using this right now is our daughter's apartment that we have been working on. She has the orange wall behind her bed but we have already purchased an orange Greek key design pillow for her bed that looks great. I am too practical to replace something quickly. Liana is offering a pair of them on her Etsy shop here. Is anyone else as crazy for this fabric as I am?

a pillow sign

Do you look for signs that make decision making easier? Not the life altering, self improvement or parenting type of signs but the fun decorating-your-house kind of signs that motivate one to make changes.

Recently, Mary Ann, author of the inspiring Classic Casual Home blog wrote about Woodyliana's beautiful pillows and proper pillow care (here). I had a set of Liana's Lee Jofa pillows favorited in my Etsy account. I spotted them in Mary Ann's post and that was the sign! They are now sitting on the sofa in my husband's tv room (formerly the unused living room).

I also love this Thomas O'Brien Nympheus pillow that Liana makes but cannot find the right place for it. I think it is stunning!
