time to plant paperwhites for the holidays

We have no problem with the scent, finding them to smell delicate and fresh. The sometimes strong odor has to do with a chemical compound called indole which can be strong and musky.

They are the easiest bulb to grow, just stick them in moist soil or pebbles and water. Let the bulbs sit on top exposed. Buy the largest bulbs you can find, they will produce more flower heads. Nurseries are better sources, the kits you find at the big box home improvement stores tend to have small bulbs and tacky containers. Paperwhites take 3-4 weeks to bloom.
