Hi from Savannah and email subscription fix

Hi everyone!

We are visiting Savannah this week to celebrate our anniversary and our youngest son's 20th birthday. Weather has been great, breezy and not too humid the first few days but typical Savannah September weather returned yesterday which is just fine, just look for shade. Which Savannah has lots and lots of!

We are staying in a townhouse on Jones Street which I highly recommend. Safe, beautiful architecture and complete canopy of oaks. Parking has not been a problem either. We are just around the corner from the pretty shops on Whitaker Street...Number Four Eleven, Circa Lighting, One Fish Two Fish.

We never tire of strolling the beautiful squares. There is no where else on earth that looks like this! The most beautiful city neighborhoods under canopies of oaks. We explored Alex Raskin Antiques, which houses four floors of antiques in an elegant crumbling old home.  Amazing place.

It faces Monterey Square, the same square as The Mercer Williams House, famous home written about in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. 

Son at work with husband as his customer. He works at Prospector Co., a nice shop at the end of Broughton Street near Marc Jacobs and Kate Spade. They sell their own line of men's grooming products  and very unique, well chosen gifts.  

We visited the gorgeous modern Jepson Center that is part of the Telfair Museums. I love this painting "Squall over Savannah" by Ray Ellis. The Whitfield Lovell exhibit was haunting.  The Jepson's exterior is  a huge glass window that reveals the beautiful Telfair Square.

We also have enjoyed food! Southern meals at the The Olde Pink House,

the southern Italian restaurant The Florence ,

and the French bistro, Circa 1875.  

Also some yummy macarons from Marche aux Macaron!

So that's it from Savannah.

beach day and a beautiful rooftop bar in Savannah

We headed to the beach after our morning tea yesterday. Just the two of us, our kids are scattered in Colorado, NYC and Savannah. We love the natural beauty of Hunting Island Beach. It is unique because it is one of the few undeveloped barrier islands on the East Coast.

The sky was blue over the entire island with the exception of the overcast beach.

We love our little roller cart. No grumbling or trudging along, hands full. Smoothly rolls over ever surface. $29 well spent, likely to last one season only but holding up great so far.

Lots of driftwood left from previous storms.

The beaches at the ends of the island are kept in a natural state. Leftover fallen trees from Hurricane Irene a few years ago have been left to help fight erosion. They are sculptural and beautiful.

But there are plenty of wide open beaches to enjoy.

We found five sand dollars.

Isn't Mother Nature amazing? So beautiful.

We cleaned up and headed down to Savannah to have dinner with our son who attends Savannah School of Art And Design. I posted about the amazing impact the school has made on downtown Savannah here.  We had drinks at Perch, a gorgeous rooftop bar nestled among Southern Live Oaks. Then dinner below at Local 11 Ten, a wonderful restaurant serving food from the local farms in Georgia and South Carolina. We loved it and highly recommend it on your next visit to Savannah.

things I like this week

1. Such an easy appetizer for entertaining or a simple lunch for hubby and me paired with a salad. Just drizzle olive oil, finely chopped herbs and red peppers, salt and pepper over a log of goat or feta cheese and serve warm with crostini.

2. Isn't this place setting by Tom Sheerer with grass mats and  pink seersucker napkins pretty? Wicker vases for candles (bought some of these at Marshall's a few years ago), monogrammed plates (Gracious Style sells them) and unique footed glasses compliment.

3. Sandal weather is fast approaching. Joie is a company that is new to me, saw these on Piperlime. Love the color added to a traditional thong sandal. A fresh take on a classic.

4. Isn't this little furry peanut adorable? I think Andy would love him (or her)!

5. Chunky table lamps are my favorite, Circa Lighting sells this pierced celadon lamp by Ralph Lauren that would look great in our house.

6. Who doesn't love the courtyard gardens of Charleston and Savannah? We have visited in the spring in the past (always trying to be nonchalant as we peer into the private gated gardens on our strolls) and are looking forward to being there this fall for a week to get youngest son situated in school but we have never been on a garden tour for up close access. Have you? Savannah held their tour of homes a few weeks ago. The Garden Club of Charleston held their tour last weekend. Historic Charleston Foundation's House and Garden Tour and Antiques Show is still going on. Visiting all of these on the same trip is on my bucket list!

7. Saw this striped bedding in a simply decorated room by Tricia Foley on Boxwood Terrace blog. Love the wicker table and glass lamp. We found a similar striped duvet at Ikea for older son's apartment that was surprisingly soft after a wash and dry with non scented dryer sheets. West Elm and Garnet Hill sell striped sheets that look great too.

8. Cut spring flowering branches extra long for a dramatic tall accent in a high ceilinged living room. While you are at it, add two bright pillows and who doesn't need a gorgeous modern painting like this one by Robert Rea? This is his Georgetown living room that was featured in Veranda a few years ago.

9. I think the artistry and technique of chalk artist Dana Tanamachi is amazing! Her work is often seen in New York City and Brooklyn where she lives. I love this message, a print can be purchased for $60 here.
